Para Swimming has made a strong start on Day 1 of the 2026 Toyota SASAPD National Championships in Stellenbosch, with athletes producing high-quality performances across a full programme of events.

The competition, taking place at the Coetzenburg Outdoor Swimming Pool, has already highlighted the depth of talent across the country, with multiple provinces featuring prominently in the results.

KZN Aquatics set the tone early through standout performances from Alani Ferreira, who dominated across multiple events including the 100m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 50m breaststroke, establishing herself as one of the leading performers of the championships.

Gauteng Aquatics showed significant depth across the men’s events, particularly in freestyle and backstroke, with a number of athletes consistently finishing in the top positions. Western Cape Aquatics made a strong impact, led by Tiaan Terblanche, who secured victories in both the 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly, while also featuring in the top placings in other events. The province also saw strong performances from Leandi Hattingh and Naseerah Du Toit in the women’s butterfly and breaststroke events.

Free State and Northern Cape athletes also made their presence felt, with podium finishes across selected events, reinforcing the national spread of competitive talent in Para Swimming.
