The Eastern Cape Physically Disabled Sport Federation heads into the 2026 Toyota SASAPD National Championships with confidence, following a strong period of preparation and growth across its programmes.
The province will be represented by a large and diverse team of 144 members, including athletes, coaches, managers, officials and caregivers, highlighting the scale of its participation at this year’s championships.
Preparation has been a key focus in the lead-up to the event, with the federation hosting dedicated training camps in both athletics and boccia. These camps have played an important role in sharpening performance while also integrating a number of new athletes into the provincial setup.
There is a strong sense of optimism within the team, particularly with the emergence of new talent. The federation has built a reputation over recent years for consistent performance, with boccia and powerlifting having ranked among the top codes nationally over the past four years.
In addition to these strengths, there has also been progress in other areas, with continued efforts to improve standings across all participating codes at national level.
Behind the scenes, significant work has gone into ensuring the team is fully prepared. From logistics to administration, the support structures around the athletes have been working extensively to create a stable and organised environment ahead of the championships.
Athletes across clubs in the Eastern Cape have also played their part, maintaining strong training routines and preparing thoroughly for the competition.
With both preparation and support structures in place, the Eastern Cape team enters the championships confident and ready to perform, aiming to build on past successes while continuing to develop the next generation of talent.
