Para Judo action at the 2026 Toyota SASAPD National Championships delivered strong performances on the opening day, with the Eastern Cape emerging as a dominant force in the competition.
Competing at the Department of Sport Science Games Hall at Stellenbosch University, athletes across multiple classifications took to the mat, showcasing both technical skill and competitive intensity.
Eastern Cape athletes led the way in the medal standings, securing multiple gold medals across divisions. Indiphile Foslora claimed gold in the Male Group 5 (J1 and J2, U70) category, setting the tone early in the competition.
In Male Group 6 (J1 and J2), Ayabulela Gashi secured gold, with teammate Khanyiso Falteia taking silver and Siphumulele Cenga earning bronze. Further success came through Ndyepo Lamani, who secured gold in the U81 division, while Lwazi Mangqengwana added another gold in the U95 category.
The strong medal haul saw all available points allocated to the Eastern Cape, underlining their depth and preparation heading into the championships.
Despite some challenges across other provinces, including withdrawals and limited participation, the competition still delivered high-quality performances and provided a platform for athletes to compete at national level.
