Toyota's grand gesture changing learners lives

By Mark Lemke • 4 September 2026

This week Toyota handed over a brand-new minibus to Paarl School, a special needs school located in Brackenfell, Cape Town, that has a deep connection with SASAPD.

The bus was joyously received by the staff members and a group of students, all of whom had smiles from ear to ear.

The school principal, Annaline Norman, expressed her overwhelming thanks to Toyota and SASAPD, “I am very thankful for this bus. It is certainly going to take us places in every sense of the words, and it will be a massive help for us with the transportation of our learners.

“Although we are based in Brackenfell, most of our learners come from outside of the local community, with students stretching as far as Wellington. It is a big operation handling the transport, and this gift from Toyota will go a very long way in easing that load."

The SASAPD president, Jean Miggels, was in attendance for the handover and shared a heartfelt message to the incredible students.

“Firstly to the special learners, our future Paralympians and South Africa sport stars, this bus is more than a vehicle, it is an opportunity. Sport has a remarkable power to change lives. It has changed my life and it continues to do so for others,” she told the gathered audience.

“Your disability does not define who you are and what you can achieve. We hope that this bus can help you reach the goals and dreams you have set, and we are so happy as SASAPD and with the generous support of Toyota, to be able to give you this boost. Keep working hard and continue to make us proud.

“Thank you for being the outstanding stars you are. I cannot wait to see you develop on your journey,” the SASAPD president added.

It was a day of laughs, hugs, and smiles which encompasses the essence of SASAPD and Toyota. Paarl School continue to excel in the work they are doing for the next generation, and this vehicle will provide an added boost to what they can achieve.
