Potgieter hosts successful workshop
The SASAPD National Convenor for Boccia, Marisa Potgieter, has continued her valued work within the organisation and the sport by presenting a successful Boccia workshop at the Moakeng Disabled Children Centre in Kroonstad.
Marisa is a World Boccia Technical Delegate and Free State (FSSAPD) Boccia Convener. Always passionate about supporting Boccia, she was part of the 2024 breakthrough for Boccia to be a sport represented by Team SA at the 2024 Paralympc Games.
“We have been working for more than 10 years to get Boccia SA internationally recognised, and the dream finally came true in 2022 when we took our first SA team to the World Boccia Championships in Rio de Janeiro,” she said at the time.

Now, she continues to raise the bar. At the weekend, the latest Boccia workshop included both theoretical and practical sessions, as well as assessments for aspiring referees, coaches, and team managers. It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm and commitment of all participants as they worked towards developing their skills and knowledge of Boccia.
The entire SASAPD leadership and family thanks Marisa for her tireless efforts, with sincere appreciation also extended to the Moakeng Disabled Children Centre for generously providing the venue and supporting the development of Boccia in our community.
“The love between athletes is incredible. For some, it’s the one thing they can do, and it gives their life meaning. If you dream it and believe it, you will achieve it. The possibilities with Boccia are endless!” is how Marisa describes the code.
