How Rossouw's tireless work helps others
For over 50 years, Corne Rossouw has volunteered her time, energy, and love to SASAPD and the incredible athletes within the federation. In the second event in the Huddle Up Women's Month series, Rossouw spoke about what it means to be a volunteer, and the immense effort that goes into this selfless act.
She began by stating a general definition of volunteering.
"A volunteer is an individual who willingly offers their skills, time, and energy to help others without expecting financial gain."
Rossouw went on to explain the missing piece of the definition. "This definition sounds great, but in life, volunteer work is not compulsory. It is not law. It is not policed. No one can force you to be a volunteer. It is your choice to make, like I made mine."
It is not always easy to offer your services and time for free, and that is okay, but the passionate Rossouw shared the secret to making volunteer work special for you.
"Volunteering gives you an opportunity to be part of something greater than yourself. There is no limit to what you can volunteer for. It could be a school, a club, a church or, or even a bank!
"What matters when you make your decision, is that you believe and care for what you are doing. Think of a dream or life goal and use volunteer work to make it come true."
These inspiring and heartfelt words from the compassionate Rossouw was the driving message shared during the Huddle Up. She closed out her talk with this.
"I have loved every moment I have worked with SASAPD, and I am so grateful for this opportunity to speak about this. From the day I began to now, I have had nothing but love and fulfilment in my heart. The members of SASAPD from top to bottom are amazing, and I encourage you all to work and volunteer with passion to achieve your dreams and help others achieve their dreams too."
The heartfelt words of wisdom from Rossouw created a memorable Huddle Up Thursday.
