Team South Africa has completed Day 1 of competition at the Cairo 2025 World Boccia Africa Regional Championships, currently taking place in Egypt from 28 July to 3 August.
After arriving safely in Cairo on Monday and using Tuesday to settle in and complete final preparations, the team began their campaign on Wednesday with focus and enthusiasm. The athletes embraced the challenge of international competition, with several taking to the court for the first time in this championship.
Elanza Jordaan opened her tournament with a well-played win over fellow South African Sheena Hwami in the BC3 category. Brett Russel Dakin also had a solid performance in BC2, claiming a win in one of his matches and putting in a determined effort in another.
While some of the other matches did not go in South Africa’s favour, the team remained upbeat and committed throughout the day. Each game provided valuable experience and the opportunity to build confidence going forward.
Karabo Morapedi, one of South Africa’s Paralympic qualifiers, will begin his competition on Day 2. The team is looking forward to continuing their campaign and building on the positives from Day 1.
The South African Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (SASAPD) congratulates the team on a spirited start and applauds the dedication of the athletes, ramp operators, and support staff.
