CP Football
About CP Football
CP Football is designed for ambulant athletes with Cerebral Palsy or an acquired brain injury. It is played as both a recreational activity and a competitive team sport at club, national, regional, and international levels.
How the Sport Works
CP Football was developed to allow individuals with Cerebral Palsy to participate in the world’s most popular sport. The game involves:
- 7 players per team on the field.
- Two halves of 30 minutes each.
- Classification rules to ensure balanced teams.
Classification details:
- FT1: Most severe impairment.
- FT2: Moderate impairment.
- FT3: Minimal impairment.
Each team must have at least one FT1 player on the field at all times and is not permitted to have more than one FT3 player on the field at a time.
Historic Paralympic Representation
Football 7-a-side has been contested at every Summer Paralympics from 1984 to 2016. Although it is no longer included in the current Paralympic Games, the sport remains a key activity for athletes with Cerebral Palsy worldwide.
